Muharram al-Haram: A Season for Renewing the Principles of Humanity and Servitude to Almighty Allah





Among the blessings of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) upon His servants is that He grants them continuous seasons of goodness to ard them and increase them in bounty. As soon as the blessed season of Hajj concludes, it is followed by a noble month—Allah’s month, Muharram. Thus, at Shabakat al-Naba’ al-Ma’loumatiyya (Al-Naba’ Information Network), we would like to highlight some of the virtues and lings of this sacred month.

The Sanctity of the Month of Allah—Muharram


Muharram is considered one of the sacred months that Allah Almighty mentioned in His Noble Book:

"Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them. And fight against the polytheists collectively as they fight against you collectively. And know that Allah is with the righteous."
(Surat al-Tawbah: 36)

The Virtue of the Month of Muharram


Once again, the sacred month of Muharram returns with the remembrance of Ashura, a commemoration that has been observed ever since the martyrdom of the Master of Martyrs, Imam al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon them all), until this very day—thousands upon thousands of times. And in each instance, the lovers of the Imam (peace be upon him) draw new values and meanings from the eternal school of Ashura. This is what has kept the light of that great epic burning brightly, dazzling eyes throughout the ages, causing even outsiders to bow their heads in reverence to the greatness of the one commemorated, while believers continue to draw sustenance from this rich school for both their worldly lives and their hereafter.

We must not forget that the remembrance of Ashura has gone through a long journey of transformation, and that the sacrifices made by the forefathers—those deeply devoted to the Master of Martyrs (peace be upon him and them)—are what brought this Ashura movement, which stands against oppression and is deeply rooted in its sacred goals, to us today.

We cannot tly claim to belong to this school unless we are ready to sacrifice what is most precious in pursuit of its noble goals, and to hand down this Hussaini tst—this heavenly legacy—to future generations, safeguarded and pure, without any corption or deviation. This can only be done with sincerity of intention and the dissolution of personal interests, replaced solely with the aim of seeking the pleasure of Allah, the Almighty.

The Virtue of the Day of Ashura


In tth, the values and ideals we hold dear are, in large part, thanks to the sacrifices of the Master of Martyrs (peace be upon him). It is Ashura that instilled in our souls altism, service to others, compassion for the downtrodden, and the defense of the oppressed. For the sake of all this, we must keep the flame of Ashura burning alys, and be willing to give our very lives for its sake, so that dignity and honor may endure for us and for the generations to come.

In our daily lives, we spend large amounts of money on various affairs. We also exert effort and time for our children, spouses, homes, work, and businesses. But we must realize that what is spent and sacrificed in the y of Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) is of the highest value and greatest merit. Let us also know that any step we take in service of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) will be arded by them with the best of ards.
The Duties of the Lovers of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) in Muharram


The first duty of the lovers of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) is to uphold the dignity of Ashura—its culture, its programs, its gatherings, its processions—and to revive all that relates to it and keeps its memory alive. Undoubtedly, this task is accompanied by hardship and difficulty. Yet these difficulties lead to immense ard and great recompense.

Those who have rendered outstanding services in this path, and have borne pain and suffering for Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him), will have their names inscribed in letters of light in the book of history. Conversely, those who have shown even the slightest disrespect to the mourning processions and Husayni ceremonies—those who opposed the rituals for the Master of Martyrs (peace be upon him), who uttered phrases like: “This is not your concern, leave it to them,” or the husband who forbade his wife from participating, the wife who discouraged her husband, the brother who prevented his brother, or the neighbor who blocked his neighbor—in short, anyone who places an obstacle in the path of commemorating the Husayni rituals, will have that written against them, whether small or great.
